Every day I see something in Alaska that I never knew existed before. This time it was Snow Sculptures. I mean, I have made sand castles on the beach and have seen ice sculptures at swanky events (and all over Anchorage!). I didn’t even really know what snow sculpting was until this Fur Rondy event. Oh, remember Fur Rondy is the annual Fur Rendezvous and Winter Festival in Anchorage that culminates with the Ceremonial Start of the Iditarod.
Check out my this post: Fur Rondy: The Sawbuck Speakeasy.
Here are some pics of a few of the snow sculptures. Let me know in the comments which one was your favorite!
This very cool sunbathing walrus was done by my friends Tim and Amy. It was my fave there even if I hadn’t known the creators!
I feel like I resemble this guy with all the layers I had to wear to hang outside 😉
Nothing to see here, just howling at the moon.
Creepy and cute all in one!
Just a girl and her horse…
The sound quality out of these was a little iffy.
This Ice Goddess was really cool from all angles.
Olaf!! Funny that he is in front of the Reindeer Sausage booth…
Very polished and excellent detail… can you name the movie?
Heavy.
The Cross.
Creating for a cause.
A shipwrecked boat…
Easily my second fave was this bear fishing for some salmon!
Think I can make one of these guys with this little kit? Me either.

These are AMAZING!!! If I had talent, I would have had enough snow & cold to do one.
It is hard to pick just one! A lot of work, time & imagination went into creating every one of them!!
But I have to go with HEAVY – especially this time of the year with the holiday coming up.
