When I first heard that I was going to test drive a minivan, I had a moment of whaaattt? Then I thought of the amount of my friends and family that drive minivans to haul around their kids and families. I knew I wasn’t the target market for the 2016 Kia Sedona SX-L, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t drive it and see what I thought about it. I’m just going to say this… I never would have thought that a minivan could get up and go quickly. The Kia Sedona surely did! Plus, the car tech in this Sedona amazed me. If I were ever to be in the market for a minivan, I would look at the Kia Sedona for sure.
I started to wonder how many of things could I fit into the Kia… like how many dogs would fit in there? Cases of beer? My mind went wild with different ideas. Seriously, there is so much room inside! I liked the aerodynamic body style too – the lines were more modern and contoured, which made the Kia Sedona look much more hip than I ever remember minivans looking.
I took this pic and wondered what it symbolized…. a family with 2.2 kids, a great dog, and a beautiful house. Driving the Kia Sedona really made me think of what would life be like if I had made different choices, walked different paths. I never would have thought that taking a picture for a car review would make me theorize about my life decisions, but that is exactly what driving this car all week did.
I started to wonder if I had kids in the backseat, would they beg me to watch Star Wars or would they be interested in something else? If they were, these handy dandy headsets would make sure I wouldn’t lose my mind if they listed to Barney. Is Barney still a thing??
As I was driving the Kia Sedona, I couldn’t get over how much space there was. Everywhere. I had to stretch a bit to reach everything on the dash. Beautiful design, no feature or comfort was overlooked. Everything in the vehicle could be accessed by the driver’s seat – including the tech for the kids in the backseat to being able to open and close both sliding doors, two sun roofs, and back door.
Driving the Kia Sedona was new to me for a different reason too – it is big. HUGE. I was so afraid to park it and hit something. Thankfully, there are rear cameras that check the surroundings and blast a photo on the screen. The Kia barely fit in my garage and I needed those cameras to help me navigate into the tight space!
While the camera was on, the lights lit up right below the gear shift. Made it super easy to press the video button at other times to make sure I didn’t back up over things too! Love this feature!
In these new keyless vehicles, I never know where to put my key. In the Kia Sedona, you can toss them right next to the USB and AUX. Loved that those were both easily accessible and I didn’t have to hunt to go find them!
All in all, I enjoyed driving the 2016 Kia Sedona. It seriously made me contemplate what if my life was different. For me, I would rent this minivan for cross country trips as it would be great to tour the US with all this room!
