30 Day Detox Results

A week ago I had flown in from Las Vegas to Chicago and drove down to North Vernon, Indiana. My body felt broken. It felt like every cell in my body was screaming for me to stop living the life the way I had been. Sure, 13 days in Vegas didn’t do it any good, but this really was a long time coming. I probably had more reactions to soy in 2015 than any other year. With that, my symptoms became worse and worse. Or maybe I am more acutely aware of how my body reacts to this allergen now.

I’ve often said that soy will kill me one day. Well, I’m trying to not be overly dramatic, but I felt that if I didn’t make a drastic change, that it could happen a lot sooner than later. I called up my cousin Trevor, and asked if I could come and stay with him and heal. He had a bed and a hug waiting for me. He also had CrossFit Retaliation waiting for me every morning at 4:30am. I have some colorful words to describe that nonsense, but I will refrain!

The Sox Box – Yay Burpees

Every day we woke up at 4:30 and were on the road to Columbus, IN 30 miles away to CrossFit Retaliation. For an hour every morning I thought I was going to die. It was, and still is, insanely hard. I fell into a depression because my body was so out of shape that I could barely do any of the exercises. But I tried. I might have been slower than everyone else, I might have looked like a beached whale flailing around on the ground trying to do burpees, but I did them. Well, sort of. But, I tried.

How to do Burpees

Then we would drive home, and while Trevor snuck in a quick 20 minute nap, I would make us coffee in the coffee press. I would also make fresh juice using carrots, cucumbers, celery, spinach, kale, parsley, pears, and lemon. Then I would get ready to head into his chiropractic clinic where there was WiFi and I could get some work done. While there, I had acupuncture done, laid on the BioMat, and had other therapies done on me.

Breville Juice Extractor

For seven days, I have not had a meal that Trevor or I did not make. Not one. I have not ingested one gram of soy, had one drop of alcohol, and haven’t had gluten. For now, I can’t have any of those three things as they make my liver and kidneys work overtime. I’ve been laser focused on getting that shit out of my body! Honestly, I haven’t gone to my uncle’s craft beer bar, Vernon’s Ale House, because I wasn’t strong enough yet to not have a beer. I love craft beer, I love talking about craft beer, but for the next 21 days, I can’t have any. Instead of trying to fight it, I have just kept myself away from it.

In case you missed it, here are the posts that brought me to hit the reset button on my life and do a 30-Day Detox:

Pre-Detox Jitters and Why I'm So Freaked Out About It

72 hours into a 30-Day Detox. Damn, This is Hard.

Finally, I wrote this post about all the foods that contain soy. Boy, should I have written this years ago. Most people have no idea what has soy in it. Neither do most cooks or chefs. I’m hoping by laminating this and handing it to the server, I can reduce my risk of ingesting soy when I start to eat out again.
