Screw You Fat! 30 Minutes 30 Days

Sigh. It happened again. Sometimes it happens slowly, other times it is occurs overnight. What’s happening now is both. I’ve gained weight again. Sigh. Screw you fat! Bring on 30 Minutes for 30 days.

30 Minutes 30 Day Challenge

When I am traveling it is very hard to stay completely soy-free. I try, I ask everywhere I go, but alas, it is a sneaky little bastard and it gets in. I have a new reaction to my severe allergy – my face turns red and I get really really poofy. I retain water like a camel. But the difference is, the water weight used to go away quickly and now it is sticking around a bit longer.

Soy Reaction

Here is a pic of what I look like when I am dealing with a soy reaction.

Traveling to the Lower 48

When I first got to Indiana from Alaska, I knew I was 10 pounds heavier than I was last year… but it truly was more muscle. My trainer noticed and said all those squats were working because my ass was getting toner and smaller. Music to this girl’s ears! I try to do between 50-100 squats every single day. Confession: Every time I use the restroom as I am drying my hands, I do 10 squats. By the end of the day, well over 50.

But then something that made me cringe happened the next day. I had just had my hair cut and colored, which I had not had done in over 7 months. I loved how it looked. I was outside trying to take a good picture of my hair when a lifted truck went by and the guy in the passenger seat leaned out and yelled, “You are still fat!” Wow. Classy. Your parents must be really proud of you.

10-14-14 Haircut Day

Showing off my new haircut when the guy yelled at me, “You are still fat!”

I posted the story on Facebook and my friends said some really wonderful things. What is a good thing though for me is that my self-esteem is not tied into my weight. It has taken a bit to get there, but I am thankfully there.

I drove down to Alabama to see my friend Jason after I spent a great night hanging with my brother. Jason shot a couple videos of me doing craft beer interviews. The second I looked at the first video I was in shock. WTF was wrong with my face? I looked swollen and my face was bright red. Sigh. Soy!

Look at my poofy face in this video = Soy Reaction!

The next day was my friends Aleshia and Jayson’s wedding and when I put on my dress for the night I about freaked the eff out. I looked at myself from the side and noticed my stomach was larger than I had seen it in a year. I dropped what I was doing and ran to Nordstrom Rack and bought Spanx… which I had sworn to never wear again. I was devastated but I knew that this weight gain was all my fault and I had to do something about it.

10-18-14 Wedding Night

I cut off the bottom of this pic because I didn’t like how my stomach looked.

The 3 Letter Word that I Hate: SOY.

Yes, I gain weight because of soy reactions but I also drink craft beer and wine and have been eating meat again since I have been out of Alaska. Why does that matter you might wonder? Well, I have figured out that commercial meat, especially from cow or pig, have been fed soybeans.

When I have meat I am ingesting that soy and getting sick. While in Alaska, I eat primarily fish and sometimes moose, but very rarely commercial beef or pork. It is CRAZY to think I am getting sick because of what the animals ate… but it makes perfect sense.

I arrived in Charlotte yesterday and there was a scale in my hotel room – when I have a scale I am compulsive about weighing in. I had gained 6 pounds in the last 3 days!! I had gained 15 pounds in the last 4 weeks. Oh hells no!

That leads me to today. I am a wine and craft beer blogger and a full-time traveler. I also have a torn Achilles and a torn Rotator Cuff that I have to be cognizant of. With that said, I have to lose weight within those confines.

Starting today I am challenging myself to 30 minutes of activity for 30 days. I woke up and did 20 minutes of yoga, got my heart rate up, did sit-ups (my stomach was none too happy about that), banged out 40 squats, and did a 20-second plank. I then walked the 10 minutes from my room around the golf course to the conference center. I got my 30 minutes in already, but I am still going to work on hitting squats, sit-ups, and planks again this afternoon.

I’m also going back to being militant about being soy-free. I am pretty much, but obviously, I am letting something in and that needs to stop ASAP. So no more commercial meat that isn’t organic, non-GMO. Doing that in Alaska will be SO much easier than while I am down in the Lower 48. But I am one determined woman, so I will try my best!

Count me in for the 30 minutes of activity a day! Um. Today I rode my bike for almost 2 hours…so does that mean I can skip the next few days? (Just kidding! Doing at least 30 minutes every day…I’m in!)
