Imagine my excitement to not only head to Denver for the epic beer scene and to witness two great friends getting married, but to also arrive in style in the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring. I love little sport cars. I’m the granddaughter of a race car driver, my friends… driving fast and hugging the curves is in my blood. And yes, my daddy taught me right… I can indeed drive a stick shift. My first three cars were all manual. So when I was asked if I would like to drive around Colorado in the brand new, bad ass 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring red convertible, you bet I jumped at the chance!
I loved the middle console. Super easy to shift, plus all the controls for the dash were at my fingertips.
You know I’m a sucker for the installed navigation and XM radio. Oh, look… one of my favorite Beatles songs came on when I was checking this bad boy out.
There was not the usual trying-to-figure-where-everything-is in this car. You get in, buckle up, adjust your seat and mirrors, and be prepared to for an ultra smooth ride. Heated seats and baseball cap included. Love, love, love that!
I wanted to truly drive this car in an area so beautiful that it would be an unforgettable time. I woke up early and headed to Garden of the Gods, just outside of Denver. For a brief moment in time, I was the only one on the road soaking up the rich red dirt and birds welcoming in the day. I sat quietly in this Miata and contemplated life and my purpose in it. That often happens when I take road trips into nature. I remember melting into the soft, leather seats and closing my eyes. The driver seat seemed to hug me as the music flowed over me. I like to think my little Miata enjoyed being in that moment as much as I did!
Top down, stick shift in my hand, enjoying the majestic views of Garden of the Gods… perfect way to start my day! Thanks @mazdausa #drivemazda #gardenofthegods A photo posted by Kristi Trimmer (@kristitrimmer).
After the epic wedding, I had an early morning flight. I drove back to Denver on a two-lane country road enjoying every second I could in this car. I never knew I would enjoy this car so much, but I did! Now, to be honest, this couldn’t be my every day car as I tend to have a lot of stuff and this trunk is teeny tiny. BUT… if I ever road tripped again it might just be with a backpack, a smile, and fast Miata MX-5 <3.
Thank you, Mazda! I’m now a true and loyal fan of the MX-5!
