This past spring I had the opportunity to step behind the bar and learn more about mixing great drinks and flavor profiles in alcohol. I mean, I was doing this already at home parties and in my cooking, but I wanted to learn to make great drinks too. I am addicted to citrus. ADDICTED. Seriously, I have a secret love affair happening with limes. But I digress… Growing up in Arizona, I was introduced to the lovely tart flavor of kumquats. We would eat them skin and all! So good!

Typically, most people pair vodka with OJ for your standard Screwdriver. What if instead, you use Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum and Grand Marnier orange liquor (fabulous taste!)? Then add in orange juice and triple sec to enhance that summer and fall citrus profile. To really make it unique, kick the rum and OJ up a notch with sour kumquats! Seriously, good.
Ingredients:
- 3 ounces Orange Juice
- 1 ounce Captain Morgan Cannonball Spiced Rum
- 1 ounce Grand Marnier Liqueur
- 0.5 ounce Triple Sec Simple Syrup
- 2 – 3 Kumquats
- In a cocktail shaker add orange juice, spiced rum, orange liqueur, triple sec and lots of ice cubes
- Squeeze the juice of 2-3 kumquats into the shaker
- Secure the cap onto the cocktail shaker and SHAKE IT BAH- BEY for 30 seconds – you can get a good arm workout (bonus!)
- Strain into a glass filled with crushed ice
- Garnish with sliced kumquats on a cocktail stick
- Serve with a smile
- Drink responsibly, and never drink and drive!
