I have always wanted to cover music and movies, but never have. Well, that’s going to change a bit! I’m seriously thinking about heading to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah and South By Southwest (SxSw) Interactive and Music Festival in Austin, Texas this year. I’ve gone to SxSw a few times, but last year was the first time I stayed for the music portion and what I heard blew me away. Artists I had no idea about, music I never would have listened to, but at the end, realized I needed to expand my horizons.
I was sent the video for a new artist, Gia, who at 18 years old embodies the future of music with hopes of being the next voice for her young generation. Her first single Only a Girl is definitely a bit on the risque side! It combines Alternative Pop and R+B produced by Pablo Dylan, the grandson of legendary Bob Dylan. Creative Director, Jesse Saint John brought on Mathew Bowman to direct the Only a Girl video completing Gia’s goal of having the visuals to the song be as important as the music.
Gia states, “Only a Girl represents girls all around the world who have experienced a relationship with another girl. It is who I am and what I like. I feel many girls will relate to it.” Gia’s “girls” in the video include rising star model Scarlett Leithold. Only A Girl will resonate as the new girl anthem for millennials across the globe. Posted along with Only A Girl on Gia’s Soundcloud page is Hard Road. Keep your eyes and ears open as Gia plans to release her debut EP within the next few months. She will also be performing at SxSw this year – so put her on your schedule now!
I don’t necessarily resonate with the content of the song, but I do recognize talent – and I think Gia definitely has that!
