How much longer do anticipate being in Alaska?
The Million Dollar Question. Since I have rented a cabin for the Winter, I am here until the snow melts and I can drive out. Or I might to decide to stay longer. I don’t know yet… but I am happy to have just made the decision to stay here for the next few months.
Did you enjoy yourself this weekend????
Heck ya!! I started out from Indiana and drove to Nashville. I found out that a musician friend of mine, Vince Moreno, from Tucson, Arizona was playing at The Stage on Broadway. That was a awesome seeing him perform.
Hanging with the talented Vince Moreno at The Stage on Broadway!
Then I had the chance to see my brother, Ricky, who was in town to work the Paul McCartney concert. That was amazing for me. I miss my brother and my family. I go for months not seeing friends and family – so I treasure those moments even more. It was pretty awesome too when he handed me a ticket for 15th row for the concert, not going to lie.
I love this pic of me and my bro!
Then I learned that my good friend, Jason Nunnelley lived just 2 hours south of Nashville in Cullman, AL. He invited me to come and stay with his family. His beautiful wife Laura made a vegan dinner that was oh so yummy. Then his parents came to town and we went out to try Alabama’s craft beers. Watch this video of when I went to the Busy Bee Cafe for those beers.
Hanging with Jason at Berkeley Bob’s – the coffee shop we have most of our calls from.
The next day I was grateful to meet a friend I had only met online. Erika Gilliam-Long is another blogger who has a Facebook group where I first started selling content to other bloggers last year. I had the pleasure to go to Mellow Mushroom with her and her wife, Summer. Great conversation!
Hanging with Summer and Erika talking about facing your fears!
The main reason I had planned on being in the South this weekend though was for my friend’s Aleshia and Jason Greene’s wedding. I watched these two fall in love, go through struggles, and fall in love even more. I couldn’t imagine not going to their wedding! Our friend’s Susan and Jason Huddy came in from St. Louis too – it was a wonderful evening hanging out with great Phoenix friends. I have SO missed them!!!
Love these two – Jayson and Aleshia Greene. Fabulous people right here.
The Arizona Gang!
On Sunday I took off for Charlotte, NC for a Think Tank 14. Funny, I thought I was on Eastern time while in Alabama, but I was not. Sometime midmorning I realized I had lost an hour and was in what I love to call – Time Zone Hell. Gets me every time!
I spent 3 days in Charlotte and the beautiful Ballentyne Hotel. I saw SO many friends from all over the country and learned SO much. I had 3 different people give me a site review and have a lot of changes coming through for the site now. Think Tank 14 will be its own post as that will take another 1000 words to describe!
So did I enjoy myself this weekend? Heck ya!!
If you could have any job in Alaska what would it be and why?
I would love to work with the Forest Service or with animals in some way if I was ever going to go back and get a job. Otherwise, I am quite happy working for myself as a professional writer. I have two clients that I do social media and site design for. This allows me to work from anywhere in the world I want – weather that be in a cabin in the mountains or on the beach somewhere. I love being an entrepreneur!
What do most people do that live there for work?
A lot of people work in tourism, oil production (slope workers), or in the fishing industry. Plus there are all the regular jobs you see in cities and small towns.
What is the draw to live in Alaska?
The absolute beauty of the surroundings is something that I can’t quite put into words. Serious – seeing glaciers everyday is amazing. So is going out and seeing wild animals from Beluga Whales to Bald Eagles or Moose… I can’t get enough of it. The people there are pretty awesome and the craft beer is stellar. Alaska is a way of life that is beautiful in its simplicity. Life is different there – you have to be aware and respect the elements and the wildlife. I love Alaska. I love Arizona. They are the ying and yang.
