Can you even imagine giving up caffeine? Nope! Funny thing though, I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was 39. For the last five years though, I’ve had two very large cups of coffee a day. I also used to be an avid soda drinker, but now I might have 1 or 2 Cokes a month. I’ve been really sick this past year and have tried to understand what it means to be allergic to every tree on the planet. I primarily eat grain-free, low carb, high fat and moderate protein as a result of way too many allergy tests. Even with eating very clean, I was still getting very, very sick. I went to a gastroenterologist and he said basically that my intestines and stomach were pretty messed up and I had to make even more radical changes. One of those was the elimination of caffeine from my life. Hold on a minute, say what? I had a melt down right there in his office. I love the ritual of grinding the beans, making a delicious cup of coffee, and spending an hour in the morning reading and meditating while drinking it. I had to find something else to fill that void. I spent a week perfecting this recipe. This Keto Bulletproof Decaf Chai Tea Latte will change your life and is just as fabulous as your morning coffee!
Pin it to save it for future reference!
When I first started drinking coffee it was as a Dirty Chai, which is a Chai Tea Latte with a shot of espresso. So good! Before I gave up coffee I would drink it with So Delicious Vanilla Coconut Creamer, which tasted so good! I used to use Almond Milk until I found out I was allergic to almonds… sigh. So that had to go!
I am on a medical-grade Keto diet which is pretty much Keto + Autoimmune Protocol Diet (AIP). I am allergic or highly sensitive to 92 foods! So when I find a combination of items I can eat that taste amazing, I jump for joy and tell the world. That’s why I’m sharing this recipe with you. I know what it’s like to have foods taken away and how hard it is to find delicious replacements for your favorites.
Over the course of a few months, I perfected my own version of Bulletproof Coffee, but without the caffeine. I created this recipe for a delicious Keto Bulletproof Decaf Chai Tea. I’m happy to say that it turned out pretty darn great!
Ingredients
- 4 tea bags of Celestial Seasonings Decaf India Spice or Stash Herbal Tea Caffeine Free Spice Dragon Red Chai
- 1 Tbsp Heavy Whipping Cream or Coconut Milk
- 1 Tbsp MCT Oil
- 1 Tbsp Kerrygold Butter
- 1 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice
- 1 Tbsp Collagen Peptides
Instructions
I use my coffee maker to brew my tea for the morning and set the timer at night so it is ready for me when I wake up. I found that six cups of water set on Strong Brew with four tea bags makes the perfect chai tea. Use a large coffee cup that is deep as it helps when you blend this together.
Note: The coffee cup shown holds 2 cups of coffee. Also, this first part creates a chai tea concentrate. If you don’t use it all, simply store it in a mason jar in the fridge. Then you can use it for an iced chai tea in the afternoon or use it later in the week for your morning cup of tea.
**My coffee maker gave up on me a few weeks ago. Instead of replacing it, I have been using my coffee press. I boil the water on the stove and then pour it over 4 teabags in the coffee press. I let it sit about 4 minutes before using the chai tea concentrate in this recipe.
Add in the softened Kerrygold Butter, Collagen Peptides, Creamer, MCT Oil, and Pumpkin Pie Spice. Then slowly add in the hot tea, let it sit for about a minute to melt the butter.
Use your milk frother for 15-20 seconds to blend it all together. Be careful as it could go over the edges if you filled it too full with the tea.
Now you are ready to enjoy this delicious Keto Bulletproof Decaf Chai Tea Latte! If you want it sweeter, add in a teaspoon of coconut butter, a cocoa butter wafer, or vanilla… it makes it very creamy too! If you don’t need it decaf, try it with regular Chai Tea bags instead.

I am sooooo trying this! I’ve had problems with caffeine so much and similar to you. Didn’t start drinking it until I was in my early 30s. OMG I was missing so much!! The lattes!! That’s what got me hooked. I’ve had allergy testing done and my tests said I wasn’t allergic to coffee….well I think then maybe coffee is allergic to me!! LOL!! Today I bought some Swiss water decaf and I was so disappointed to find out that it’s not working for me either. All coffee, including this one (which should be good for IBS sufferers) is a no go but I’m still trying to wrap my head around that. This will help immensely! Especially since these past few weeks I’ve been researching everything Keto. Thank you so much!!!

Something to think about… I am not allergic to coffee, but the caffeine was making my other allergies heightened. Caffeine does something to the gut and the body and it can have a negative effect if you are already prone to other gut or allergy issues. I went caffeine free for 30 days and never felt better. I now have a cup of Bulletproof Coffee only on Mondays when I need it to get going. My stomach gets pissed though, so I don’t have a second cup like I used to.
You might want to read this post I wrote: http://kristitrimmer.com/when-you-are-allergic-to-everything-but-air/ When we were able to figure out that my main allergy is to trees, not food, I was able to make lifestyle choices to get me healthier. It has been a year since this diagnosis and I am still working at it each day.

Oh wow very interesting!! I am going to do some more investigating then because guess what?!! I’M ALLERGIC TO TREE’S! LMBO! A number of years ago I had allergy testing done and I was allergic to “western trees”. Also allergic to pollen so yes, I have said I’m allergic to “outside”. I live in BC, Canada – so ya wow! I am going to into secondary allergies. Thank you!

I love you for this. I have been avoiding caffeine as it is a trigger for GERD, so I’m excited to try this. I’ve been missing coffee so much, but I LOVE chai tea! Thank you!

You are welcome! Let me know what you think! I also added a scoop of pumpkin in it today and it is SO good!

How do you adjust for just 1 cup ? 6 cups is just too much.
Kristi Trimmer says
I see where the confusion is… I make a whole pot of the chai tea concentrate and then use 1-2 cups in the mug. That mug holds 2 cups of tea. The rest of the chai tea concentrate goes into a mason jar into the fridge for an iced drink later in the day or I use it the next morning instead of brewing a fresh pot. I will update the recipe to make it more clear. Thank you for the comment, it was very helpful for me!
